Question cdrom mount problem

hi,
i have upgrade my debian kernel 2.4 to 2.6.8 by using apt. Then i get error cannot open
/dev/consloe Kernel panic: attemp to kill init. I search a bit and find solution. Change
fstab an grub menu.lst entries hdaX to sdaX then kernel is loaded. After that i notice that i didnot mount my cdroms. I cant solve this. There is no entry for cdroms under /dev
I boot ubuntu live and look for differences. Here my dmesg for ubuntu live and debian sarge.
Where is the problem

This is ubuntu live demsg and cdroms mount and working.

It looks like ubuntu is using the ide-scsi kernel module. Your drive isn't scsi is it?
This looks like one of these is your cdrom in the debian one:
Vendor: ATA Model: ST380013AS Rev: 3.18
Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 05
Vendor: ATA Model: SAMSUNG HD160JJ Rev: WU10
Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 05
SCSI device sda: 156301488 512-byte hdwr sectors (80026 MB)
SCSI device sda: drive cache: write back
/dev/scsi/host1/bus0/target0/lun0: p1 p2 < p5 p6 >
Attached scsi disk sda at scsi1, channel 0, id 0, lun 0
SCSI device sdb: 312581808 512-byte hdwr sectors (160042 MB)
SCSI device sdb: drive cache: write back
/dev/scsi/host1/bus0/target1/lun0: p1 p2 < p5 p6 >
Attached scsi disk sdb at scsi1, channel 0, id 1, lun 0
It's possible it just didnt make links from one of those to /dev/cdrom. I'd try mounting one of those with a disk in and see if it works
and if it just then u just need to make the symlinks. Debian doesnt make everything easy on u like ubuntu does.
