CDrom 'losing' files
Hi All,
I have an interesting problem with Mandrake 8.2 ans 9.0. If I mount a CD, and browse it after a few minutes all the files seem to "disappear"... I get an error message "error: cannot open file <filename>: No such file or directory" this happens for ls, cat etc. In Konqueror, the folder disappears from the display... I have had this happen on 3 different machines with a total of 3 CDroms, and 1 DVD. Any suggestions? Tarquin |
disable the automount and mount them via hand mount /dev/cdrom

Nope, this doesnot seem to help.... I even tried mounting with the ro option. I do find that a lot of the time, I can't unmount the CD when I have done a manual mount, and it then fails. It either comes up as busy, or the tray refuses to eject. In the latter case, remounting / unmounting fixes for a while, the former needs a lazy unmount...

It really reads like a bug with SuperMount. However, next time it happens, open up /etc/mtab and look to see if your cdrom is still listed as mounted. If not, then maybe Supermount is simply umounting without you actually wanting it to (still a bug). If it is, maybe your cdrom is simply not responding, but since this is 3 different ones on 3 different systems I'm guessing not.
Have you posted to the Mandrake mail-list about this at all? I'm with nakkaya, sure sounds like it should be fixed by eliminating Supermount. However, maybe it's a DevFS issue instead, in which case, you really can't eliminate that unless you use the MAKEDEV script, but that's a whole lotta change for your Mandrake system to work with... Try disabling Supermount all together and see if that fixes it... Cool |
