CDA dont detected and cont play on redhat 9

i have redhat 9 upgraded the kernel to kernel 2.6.4 but it dosent seems to play CD audio disk which i was burn using nero.

when i inserted CDA into cdrom and automount auto detected that disk and opens an application called kscd but when i click on play button it does run but there no sound at all, so i tried using xmms the same thing happens no sound at all but it does run.

so then i go and check /mnt/cdrom and there not even a file there. its an empty folder.

whats going one here?
how to fix this?

i'm running alsa 1.0.3

some things to check,

what are the permissions on the cdrom?
did the cdrom play alright before the kernel upgrade?
after recompiling the kernel, did you run alsamixer to unmute your sound?
was the disk burned as an audio, or data disk?

hope that gets you headed in the right direction.

alsamixter in unmuted, sound system ok,
disk burn as audio and in windows using winamp5 works fine,
cdrom plays alright before kernel upgrade.

about permission, i think it is set to all user can access the cdrom. cd like games detected fine and vcd also runs fine.

what might be wrong?

being that everything was ok before the kernel upgrade, you should have a look at your .config. had to be something in the upgrade. just for grins have a look at fstab to be sure that the cdrom is not mounted by owner instead of user.
