Capture RAW Printer Data

This maybe an unusual question, like most of mine.

This is what I want to do, if possible.

Is there a way to set a Linux computers up to act like a printer, but instead of printing, it saves the Printed Data as a text file. The data I will be printing will be plain text.

That is the basic idea of what I am trying to do, with out going on in unneeded details. But, I could explain the whole situation if needed.

Thanks

Wouldn't it be easier to have the application dump the output directly to a file, rather than trying to capture a raw print stream as text ? just seems like an extra step...

This may help.. http://aplawrence.com/MacOSX/macosxcupstofile.html

if you don't need a raw or text file you can easily print to PDF in CUPs with the cups-pdf package.

Hope something there is useful. that link appears to have several options and suggestions.
