hmm, have you tried viewing that DVD on a dvd player or something else?, it could be the dvd is damaged. However, try downloading Ogle and try using that to view the DVD. It's a very nice dvd player.

here's the site for Ogle:
http://digilander.libero.it/winehqitalia/dvd.html
and you said you have the right link for /dev/dvd right?

ok, let us know, how it goes.

Henry 12-10-2002 10:23 PM

mplayer is a ok DVD player, but xine is a hella good one, and my linux friends have it too, but they can't figure out wutz wrong with it, i think ogle will have the same problem, but i'll try it

neo77777 12-10-2002 10:27 PM

do you have libdvdcss installed?

Henry 12-10-2002 10:28 PM

Henry 12-10-2002 10:29 PM

wahh, don't kno how to install w/ .rpm files, i only kno how to do it w/ tarz, tgz and bin

i use slackware and it doesn't use .rpm.. i kno there a thing 4 me to use it, but i dunno wut that is

Henry 12-10-2002 10:48 PM

neo77777, where do u have the libdvdcss, cuz i might have that in the wrong place

Meatwad 12-11-2002 12:27 AM

Do you have divx4linux installed?

MasterC 12-11-2002 12:37 AM

use rpm2tgz to convert rpm's.

Also, when you compile Mplayer, did you use Mplayer's dvdmpkit or not? You might want to if you didn't. I haven't come across a DVD yet that I couldn't play, and I didn't install any external packages (AFAI can remember) that aren't available on the Mplayer homepage. What's the command you are using to play em?

Cool

hey chad, I get this error when I try to use Mplayer to play a DVD, check it out bro.

I'm not sure what to do...I think the problem is the Video??, but how do I fix that?, :(

zLinuxz 12-11-2002 03:50 AM

wow, I tried this line, check it out chad

mplayer -vo x11 vts_02_1.vob

and then a Window came up and it started playing the DVD, a Tool music video.
However...how can I make it full screen?, also...like....the sound sounds very low...very very low...dunno why. I have to bring the volume half the way up in my Receiver...for my surround sound.

Video Quality looks very, very good, however!

acid_kewpie 12-11-2002 04:01 AM

zlinunxz, surely you've been around long enough to be able to be rtfm'd just a teeny tiiny little bit? :D either way, you want the -zoom option on x11. you might prefer video output via SDL if you've got that set up.

Henry - is this error instant or does the dvd drive fart around for a bit? i can tell you it's not a problem with divx4linux (no idea why it ever could be) or libdvdcss (not used at that stage). you might want to have a go using one of my little apps, lsdvd at http://acidrip.sourceforge.net/lsdvd.html this uses libdvdread in the same way they do, but it's tiny and easier fo you to chaneg a couple of options. the most likely though is an incorrect symlinjk. or maybe you'ev got scsi emulation on it? i don't know how that might affect things.

acid_kewpie 12-11-2002 04:02 AM

zlinuxz, also why are you playing a vob file directly??? -dvd 2
