Hi guys i am using rhel 7. I cant play any songs in it as it shows an error that MPEG1 plugin is missing, there is a search option right there but it shows the search is failed. I googled this problem but no dice. Their is no ryhthmbox player installed. How should i install it or other player so that the problem is solved.
Are you planning to use Red Hat as a Desktop computer? If so, it's not a good choice as it is designed as an enterprise type server. I've not used it and don't know if it has a media player installed by default. I googled and found a few sites explaining how to install VLC on older version of Red Hat. Red Hat is free to download but unless you pay the annual subscription fee, you get no security updates or new software after the 30 day period. If it's just a home computer you are using and playing music is an important function for you, best find something else.
You might wait for someone who is a regular Red Hat user to post.
There are repos out there that contain those plugins like rpmforge. You need to google all the repos and decide which you like best because some will conflict.
Firstly, have you actually bought RHEL? If you haven't paid, you are using a demo version: no updates, no security patches! The free equivalent is CentOS.
If you have paid for RHEL, then you can still follow the advice given for CentOS. Install the priorities plug-in and enable the EPEL and RPMFusion repositories.
as above
RHEL / CentOS / ScientificLinux are not a good choice for a HOME desktop
in a business OFFICE yes or on a server or in a laboratory
but not on a home system
i use ScientificLinux at home all the time BUT IT IS NOT!!! my default operating system
For that i run OpenSUSE as my everyday operating system and use SL6 for the programs that NEED IT
as above to install NON FREE!!!!!! non GPL propriatory music and video support you have to install third party repos
and these CAN BE INCOMPATIBLE!!!! with the redhat base system
you MUST!!! use and you MUST!!! configure "yum-plugin-priories " to keep the third party repos from REPLACING!!! critical system files with NON!!!! redhat versions
and thus KILLING!!! your install of rhel
seeing as this IS !!! RHEL7 you DID !!! buy the REQUIRED support contract
the standard one year for a desktop install is $299 PER YEAR ( there is a $49 / year self support)
this REQUIRED contract gets you access to the redhat knowledgebase
login to the redhat site with the credentials you set up when you bought the required license and use the site "search "
Hmm i use redhat for just practice purpose undergoing training in rhcel & rhcsa. I was just practising commands and i got boored and went to listen to music and found these probs. Anyways i am using windows as my home system. Anyways thanks for everyone for your replies.!!
