cant get back to KDE from console shell
ok, this must sound stupid but thats why we are all here right?
when i load up linux, it goes through its deal of loading up graphically and then it spits me into the console. I login and i am still there... i have an old "idiots guide to linux" and it says just to type "kde" in the command line doesnt work its very frustrating and if anyone could help me out it would be very greatly appreciated Thanks |
try "startx /usr/X11/bin/kde"

Consoling words
Try this:
CTRL-ALT-F7 this should switch you back to runlevel 5, (if it has been started already). CTRL-ALT-F2 This should switch you to the console mode (runlevel 3), from which you can login (maybe use root) and then type 'startx'. I think these hot keys are a great idea: I use them all the time! Harry |
some distros let yu type kde and others yu can type startx kde...
good luck out |
thanks all
thanks everyone, the startx thingy worked
nice to know i have a place to go where people can really help hope i can repay the favor |
