Trying to install Mankdrake 10 via CD, but I cant book off of the Mandrake CDs, s I tested antoher bootable CD (Knoppix, and it works)

Any workaround ideas?

My other computer is currently running Linux, and was installed using the same cd set, so I'm certain the disks are ok. I was able to boot from the cd set on the other computer but this computer wont do that to some reason

Hi Whiskers,

if knoppix comes up, the box should be OK. It uses the same boot mechanisms knoppix does. I would also recommend to check the boot CD, maybe the specific CD reader drive in this box has a problem with this specific CD (seen it all), or it just caught too much sun since the last time you used it .

My 2 cents.

Still doesnt work, neither will a linspire disk, only knoppix is seen as a bootable disk.. Is there a set of boot images that I could write to some nice 5.15 inch disks? And just for curisity, how small of install can I get with X?

I will need KDE with its configs and stuff, dont need its toys or office suite. Gaim I will install later.

Talking

Solved my problem, I hadda open up the box, and plug in a cd rom into 1 of the non-promise controllers, and, then with the same drive, and same cd, it found it and I was able to boot off it and install Mandrake 10.
