Cannot write to hard drive with Knoppix running on CDROM

Knoppix boots up on CDROM and recognizes all drives.
However, when I try to make a new folder or transfer files to the hard drive, its pretty much write-protected.
How can i make at least one drive writeable?
HELP!

All the disks in Knoppix are mounted readonly to prevent accidental errors. To make a disk/partition writable, right-click the disk icon and select "Change read/write mode". You will be asked for confirmation, answer yes and the disk should be writable.

Knoppix 6.2

Having a failed Win7 install, PC won't load a bootable DVD of Windows (keeps trying to recover the failed install).

Version 6.2 doesn't have a capability to make the hard drive r/w from it's current read only setting.

Any help would be most welcome.

Knoppix 6.2 used from cd to boot, sda is the hard drive (from what I can tell)

Under /media are cdrom, fd0, hd, hda, sda1, test

sda1 holds recoginzed windows folders.
