cannot play sound or songs in redhat 9.0

i have redhat 9.0, i tested my soundcard by Start>SystemSettings>Soundcard detection. i can hear the sound.

when i try to play songs online from websites, i cannot play songs. do i need to do some settings to play songs.

i also have xmms 1.2.7

thanks.

are the songs you can't play mp3s? I believe red hat doesn't support mp3s out the box, you have to download support seperately. Try googling for it or searching the forum. (e.g. http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...ght=redhat+mp3 )

can you play any media with sound in xmms? Like bigbadpenguin says, try different file formats to see if it's an xmms problem, although it sounds like a problem with the files to me

I had the same dumb problem. You need to have a patch called xmms-mpg123.
