Question cannot modify grub configuration

Hi all!

I've recently installed Redhat 9, using grub as boot loader. I've recompiled the kernel and want now to boot using my new kernel.
I've modified the /boot/grub/grub.conf file according to my needs, and restarted (after reading that you don't need to do anything in order to get the modification validated).
However, my modifications are not taken into account... without any error message, grub displays the default menu (from the config file generated by anaconda)
I've tried to modify only the timeout, without success. It looks like grub is not using my config file... I've searched for config file on my disk, but don't have any that would be used. I ran grub interactively, forcing to use my configuration file, to still see the default menu. I tried to change the access rights on the config file afraid that grub would not be able to access my file, no more luck.

I even tried to install another box with the same distrib and found the same problem.

Does anybody know what i am missing?
Any help or suggestion is welcome.

Kind regards,

Have you had a look at /boot/grub/menu.lst ? This is the config file usually used for Grub.

Difficult to diagnose with the info you've given. Try posting your grub.conf so we can get a better idea of what you've done.

Also, did you copy the new bzImage to /boot, and give it a name which doesn't conflict with the installed version (edit grub.conf accordingly to show that name)? You probably also need a new initrd and
