can someone help with dmesg printout ? ...

Hi. Linux rules!!!! Anyway, during bootup when all the text is displayed on the screen as to what the computer is loading and checking etc I came across this line >
ide : assuming 33Mhz bus speed for PIO modes; override with idebus=xx

Now if Im correct this is saying that the computer is assuming 33mhz bus speed. I have an ASUS A7v133 that has a 66Mhz bus up to 100mhz IDE (depending on if my Harddrive is hooked to UltraATA100 or just the regular IDE connections). If I am correct I want the bus to assume 66mhz speed since I have my HDD hooked up to the normal IDE connections on the Motherboard. I have tried hooking up to ATA100 but have found that Linux wouldn't boot since it could not recognize the addresses of the ATA100 connections; but I don't really care about having 100mhz ide speeds right now anyways.

So I guess my question is .... what file can I alter or How do I pass 'idebus=66' to the kernel so that It will assume this speed each time I boot?

My mobo is top of the line and shouldn't be running IDE at 33mhz.

thanks

This is the initial start up, look further dmesg to see if it detects IDE contrller, you can always check with hdparm what it thinks about your IDE devices, for more info refer to
man hdparm
P.S. And if you are that picky about it if you are using lilo edit /etc/lilo.conf - append the following line after root=...
append="idebus=66"
If there's an existing append statement just add
idebus=66 withing the quotes of append statement

I feel your pain. LOL.

If it wasn't the stupid bandwidth cap, I would've gotten Slack 8.1.

Depends, if you have a tendency to make uncommon drive configuration, then you may have a problem. Like cd first, hd on Promise. Not wise.

Mine is HD's first, CD last. Both are on ATA-100 cables. Both spin full speed on Linux & Win.
