Can not host more than 10 (IP) user on our web server

I am runing Linux fedora 3, Apache 2.0.53 (Fedora) and PHP Version 4.3.11. The e-commerce software i am using is OSCommerce.

The PROBLEM is: I can not host more than 10 user (IP). If I or anyone try to access my web site by IP or name they get page not found. If I only have less than 10 user (IP) than everything is OK.

Can anyone suggest where I should check? If you require more detail information please email me at dpon@moviepostershop.com or call me toll free at 1-888-905-7588

Thank You
David

There is a MaxClients directive in the configuration file. You might like to try increasing it.

The MaxClients is currently set to 256. If I increase this size I have to recompile Apache. Any suggestion on the size I should set this at?

I wouldn't touch that. I'm still getting to grips with Apache but the fact that it maxes out at 256 is enough of an indication that your problem lies elsewhwere.

The 10 user limitation reminds me of Windows where there is/used to be a 10 user limit to certain servers. Do you have a Windows box somewhere in the system which could be limiting you?

Alternatively is there a proprietary app with a 10 user limit?

The problem is coming from all the referer, I am getting a referer every one to two second. (See sample below.) My guess is all those referer is tying the clients so my real customer or I can not get in.

So how do I filter out those referrers / fix this problem?

I x out the client IP.
