Can not enable SMP

HI

I use Slackware 10.0, kernel 2.6.7, which does not have SMP enabled by default.

I use a P4-hyperthreading processor, and I used to enable SMP in slackware9.1 which led to performance increases. but in Slack10

everytime I compile a kernel with SMP support and hypthreading support (*which is only enabled when you enabled SMP in xconfig)

I get the following message when starting up the kernel
Kernel Panic: SMP:tried to kill init

??

Sounds like you're missing a critical feature. Use the old kernel configuration as a starting point - copy it to /usr/src/linux (or whatever the directory where the new SMP kernel sources reside), rename it to .config and run make oldconfig from that directory. Leave everything as it is but choose yes for SMP support. This should make sure you're not missing anything.

But make oldconfig won't give you the chance to change the configuration to support SMP. You'll need to do make menuconfig after make oldconfig

Errrr...right.
But he'll still have all the other options he'll need enabled. Thanks for the save.
