can I reserve a keyboard shortcut for an app if it's already assigned?

I am in the habit of datestamping my personal journal, in Kwrite, by activating the command line with F7, then typing DATE. But I can't use F7, because I made it the hotkey for something else. Is there a way to reserve F7 for KWrite when I'm using KWrite, or is the only solution to find another hotkey? (Yes, I know I can get that command line in the menu. I'd rather use a key, though.)

You could probably write a script that check if kwrite is the active window (maybe with at-spi?) and execute the task requested in kwrite, of execute the other task otherwise?

I would, but I haven't learned how to write scripts yet.
