Does he have the installation CDs? If he's having system problems, he can always boot into 'rescue' mode.

Certainly the rescue mode in Mandrake doesn't ask for any passwords... not sure about the RH rescue mode, though. What kind of problems is he having? You could probably even boot from the Mandrake CD and fix the problems from there, depending on what the problems are, of course.

The boot disk images are in the /IMAGES folder on the first installation CD for RedHat (AFAIR). You'll need to rawrite them to a floppy.

he forgot his password,
and his lilo prompt goes too fast for him to type 'linux single'
i tried mandrake rescue mode with my comp,
there was an option to mount my system,
and i cleared a user's password field in /etc/passwd to see if that will work.(which worked fine)
and i tried redhat 7.0 CD, it didn't have any option for mounting..
maybe it's because my system(mandy) is not recognized by redhat..
i looked at /dev .. there was no hd*..
rawrite .. will give me lilo prompt?
cause i tried 'dd', and it just provided kernel img without giving me lilo option..
well.. i think i just try it..my group(for school project) is using this comp as server.. so i can't just shut down many times..
thanks

If your just trying to make a boot disk (floppy?)
If you have a system running even windows, just put a floppy disk in and also place the first cd of the installation discs in.
Open rawrite ( which is in dosutilities ) and then type /images/boot.img
hit enter and then it will ask for the drive letter
type a:
hit enter and there is your boot disk

kinda lost here- are u trying to create a bootdisk for mandrake or a bootdisk for RH? For mandrake, use its owni installation CD and then go into rescue mode. then create a bootdisk using this:
mkbootdisk --device /dev/fd0 2.x.x-x
(where 2.x.x.-x is the kernel version that is used by ML when in normal mode)
