Can anyone recommend me a good online course (free or otherwise) that will teach me the foundation of linux system administration?
I'm not looking to be certified/qualified per say, but I do want to be better with general system administration and security in regards to linux and I don't think my current method of searching for answers on how to do a very specific thing is very useful in the long term.
Any tips? |
Udemy has video tutorials for RH based courses as well as linux foundation courses.
But these courses are very basic (pursuing RHCE myself) and often these videos will show you just enough to make it work in the exam environment. There is a serious lack of 'how-to's for advanced stuff. For example, you'll get hundreds of guides to rhce stuff. There are websites dedicated for that. (Not condemning them at all, they are useful) but suppose you want your own setup of kerberised samba integrated with LDAP. You'll have to rely on old threads , 10 year old guides which a generous soul thought about sharing etc. [Let's not even get started on something more exotic, like Solaris/HP-ux ] There's no alternative to setup a home lab and getting your hand dirty. I follow the video courses only to know shortcuts that'd help me manage time in the exam. Sorry about the rant. |
Local library is your friend, or book store, Amazon as a last resort option (IMO).

Some of my Sysadmin Resources and from LQ. Sounds like you're getting "scroogled" (screwed by google) or inefficient search criteria (aka GIGO) |
