Can any KDE desktop be upgraded to KDE 3.4?

I am a SuSE 9.0 Pro user, and I was wondering if anyone using KDE can upgrade to the newest version of KDE. If so, how?

My current KDE version is 3.1.4.

yes.download and compile from source,download and install RPM packages,or the SuSE way-YAST sources

I attempted to download the upgrades, and I was successful in figuring out how to do it. But before the upgrade, YaST found a whole list of dependancy problems. I did not feel comfortable telling it to ignore all of these dependancies, so I did not complete the upgrade.

What could be the cause of the dependency problems? Or, is this normal? Should I ignore the dependencies and conflicts?

Maybe there is something I must do to my current system first.

Any help would be appreciated.
