Can't log on to linux or install a newer version

I installed Mandrake linux about a year ago i used it for a while then got side tracked on other computer stuff. when i went to log on i would type in my user name and password and it would tell me i needed to change my password and so it made me type it in again. After that it would tell me i need to wait longer to change my password.

After i tried to get that to work i decided to upgrade to Redhat Fedora Core 5. When i went to boot up my computer it would tell me to press any button to restart the computer and boot from the CD, but My keyboard won't responde until LILO starts to boot up can someone PLEASE help!

I've had issues with that
use a ps/2 keyboard to boot with.

the usb might not kick in till the os turns it on.
