Can't uninstall Linpus Linux and Install XP

Okay.

My friend has recently bought a new Acer desktop (The computer I am using now, in case that helps) which came supplied with Linpus Linux, however, she then found out that she couldn't download anything as when she chose to save a download to the hard drive and then open it, it only opened in text form. So she decided to install XP from the Recovery Disc that came with the PC. So, I tried to help and I tried to install XP by choosing "Boot From CD" after restarting the computer, as it was starting up. However, this only proceeded to load up Linpus Linux as per usual. Anyone know what to do?

And please, we are both new to Linux and not amazing on computers, so please don't post anything like "Omg, how didn't you know?" or anything like that, that's why we're asking for help.

Thanks,

-Kii and Jenny

Are you sure the recovery CD does contain windows XP?
If the computer came with linpus pre-installed, chances are that the recovery CD that came with it does also contain linpus linux no?
Maybe we can try to solve the problem with downloading.
Instead of clicking on the link, did you try to right click on the link and select "save to"?
Anyway, if you really need XP, first make sure your CD does contain XP. If it does not, I'm afraid you will have to buy it.

I'm sure I speak for most on this site when I say, we would much rather help you with whatever problem you have with downloading and any future problems you may have with Linux than have you switch to XP. Are you sure we can't convince you to stay?

Yeah, it does. It came with 3 recovery discs, for Linux, XP, and Vista. It says XP on the disc too, and we've tried all options with the downloading scenario, and none seem to work Do we need to uninstall Linux and if so, do you know how you do this?

Thanks,

-Kii and Jenny

*Edit* Sorry Forrest, but the problems she's had has turn her away from it. If you could help with the downloading problems, she say she'd probably stay with it. Ideally, could there be a way of getting a better version of Linux, like Ubuntu or summat?

Thanks

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, your edit didn't turn the icon associated with this thread yellow and I didn't realize you added anything. I was getting worried about you and was about to ask if you had given up. That being said...

You can use any version of Linux you like. You will get better support with more popular versions, but most of us can troubleshoot generic problems too. Can you describe the downloading problems in more detail? What do you mean by they only open in text mode?

If the discs came with the system, the best thing to do would be to call Acer and use the support you paid for. They should be able to tell you if there are any quirks associated with their recovery discs, since they likely aren't true, unmolested Windows discs that most people are familiar with dealing with.
