Not enough detail. It is good that you included the error, but you need to provide details about your hardware, specifically your video/display information.

I am not sure about the new version of RedHat but in older versions a kind of similar error was reported when the monitor was not properly configured (wrong specification etc.). It was in my initial days with linux so I reinstalled and it worked fine. If U installed linux recently try the upgrade option on bootup with the CD and choose the correct monitor type, sync rate, resolution etc.

What I meant was a description of your computer.

Laptop or PC?
Video Card make/model
If it is a laptop, what is the LCD screen resolution (1024x768, etc...)

--reconfig switch

Hi,

Try using the command below, and see if that will work.

redhat-config-xfree86 --reconfig

Or you can edit the file /etc/X11/XF86Config and in the Section "Device" use the "vesa" driver and in Section "Screen" choose to have a 800x600 to keep somthing going then startx, if this will work you can try to change it to higher setting/resolution.

mabuhay.
