There's a default key trap in Slackware so that anyone, no matter who is logged in, can hit CTRL+ALT+DEL from the console and call a shutdown, it's part of /etc/inittab:

# What to do at the "Three Finger Salute".
ca::ctrlaltdel:/sbin/shutdown -t5 -r now

You can have it trap for whatever you want, and have it call /sbin/shutdown -h now if you like.

Cheers,
