Can't read entire file from CD under RH7.1

Hi,
Is there anyone having the same problem as I do. I have successfully installed RH7.1 from a CD. After the installation, I wanted to copy a file from a CD to the hard drive. I mounted the CD to /mnt/cdrom. No complaint there. I was trying to copy a 16MB file to the hard drive and it just stop only about 6% into the process and issued a 'I/O error' everytime. I can copy files under 1MB but anything larger than that, it would just failed. Does anybody know what this problem might me?
Thanks in advance,
-Todd

most likely, your CD has scratches. Either that or you have a faulty CD drive. alternatively, you might be short on drive space in your destination drive.

Try another disk, if you still keep getting IO errors with every disk you try then it might be the drive. Also check your disk usage.

I have a removable drives that I swap back and forth for Linux and NT. The CD drive can read the entire file under NT without and problems. Only when I swap the drive back to booting Linux. I have plenty of space for the file I try to copy. Here is the exact error message from /var/log/messages:

hdd: cdrom_decode_status: status=0x51 { DriveReady
SeekComplete Error }
hdd: cdrom_decode_status: error=0x30
hdd: cdrom_decode_status: status=0x51 { DriveReady
SeekComplete Error }

hdd: cdrom_decode_status: error=0x30
hdd: cdrom_decode_status: status=0x51 { DriveReady
SeekComplete Error }
hdd: cdrom_decode_status: error=0x30
hdd: ATAPI reset complete

hdd: cdrom_decode_status: status=0x51 { DriveReady
SeekComplete Error }

any suggestions .... It might be the drivers or something .. not sure ...
