Hi!

An i586 is a Pentium or Pentium MMX CPU. An i686 is a Pentium PRO, Pentium II or better CPU.

The more advanced CPUs have instructions that are missing in the older Pentiums. By compiling programs for i686, you can utilize the CPU more efficiently, but it won't run on a Pentium classic.

You should get a package with an i586 or i386 extension instead.

Regards
Martin
