Can't install

I'm just wondering why I can't install JAVA on my system.

I went to the site sun.java.com/linux and downloaded jre__.bin and did the ./filename and it said my permission was denied, and I'm the user that downloaded it. So then I figured I might as try it as root so I did $ su <password> and tried it again. Both times it said Permission Denied. Is there a way to change that I can make it work right?

Change the permissions by right clicking the file and choosing "properties"

Choose "permissions" tab and click "advanced permissions" and then check all the boxes the say "exec". That should work.
