Question Can't find modutils for 2.6.4

Howdy.
I have been using linux for a couple of years but have never successfully compiled a kernel. I tried to compile 2.6.4 and managed to compile it correctly, but it could not load any modules. I got a "cannot find modprobe" and "no init found message. I went to kernel.org and found 2.4 modutils, but none for 2.6 I also tried rpmfind.net. nothing. Two questions: is anyone using kernel 2.6? and, where are the 2.6 modutils

as far as I know mod utils stays one step ahead of the kernels the nodutils for the 2.4.xx will work for the 2.6.xx but will need to be replaced to work with the 2.8.xx kernel the next version of mod utils should work with the 2.6.xx and the 2.8.xx kernels
