Can't find -lXpm

Okay so I'm on WM and I'm STILL trying to get these dockapps I've downloaded to work. I have the tar's in my /home/me/GNUstep/Library/Icons. Now I don't know if the directory where the file is matters or not. I cd to the directory and untar but when I do "make" I get this

c++ -Wall -pedantic -fno-rtti -fno-exceptions -O2 -I/usr/X11R6/include -c -o Main.o Main.cc
c++ -Wall -pedantic -fno-rtti -fno-exceptions -O2 -I/usr/X11R6/include -c -o Mixer.o Mixer.cc
c++ -Wall -pedantic -fno-rtti -fno-exceptions -O2 -I/usr/X11R6/include -c -o Xpm.o Xpm.cc
c++ Main.o Mixer.o Xpm.o -o Mixer.app -L/usr/X11R6/lib -lXpm -lXext -lX11
/usr//bin/ld: cannot find -lXpm
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status

Someone before suggested a symlink and I tried that but it still won't make. Any clues????

updatedb; locate Xpm;

find your Xpm lib (prolly in your X11 lib dir) and create a symlink to it. your Xpm lib might have the version in the filename, and some apps don't like that, so you'll wanna create a symlink to it without the version num.

then run "ldconfig" and try to recompile.
