Hi.
I just did a fresh Debian Linux install through FTP, using the unstable dist. It currently runs with Kernel 2.2.17
I have downloaded the Kernel 2.4.2 from kernel.org website, made a menuconfig for it, used make dep, and when i try to compile the kernel (using make bzImage or make install), it stops near the end saying
make[1]: Entering directory `/usr/src/linux-2.4.2/arch/i386/boot'
gcc -E -D__KERNEL__ -I/usr/src/linux/include -D__BIG_KERNEL__ -traditional -DSVG
A_MODE=NORMAL_VGA bootsect.S -o bbootsect.s
as -o bbootsect.o bbootsect.s
bbootsect.s: Assembler messages:
bbootsect.s:253: Warning: indirect lcall without `*'
ld -m elf_i386 -Ttext 0x0 -s -oformat binary bbootsect.o -o bbootsect
ld: cannot open binary: No such file or directory
make[1]: *** [bbootsect] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-2.4.2/arch/i386/boot'
make: *** [install] Error 2
I have some Linux knownledge although I sure ain't a "linux geek", and have compiled Kernels before, including 2.4.0. Any ideas what could be the problem?
Any help would be greatly appreciated
