.c files contain c source code. They're are not runable. You need to compile them in the way they were intended to be, in order to get the program to work.

What are you trying to do? i've you've downloaded a program, and decompressed it then there should be a 'configure' file, which you can run, followed by 'make' and then 'make install' assuming of course that each previous one worked.

You may be running the commands from a directory that is not in your PATH. Try preceeding the commands with a dot and a slash:

./make
./make install

Before you break anything...

Where did you find these files?
what are they meant to do?
or rather
What do you expect them to do?

be careful running .c files. if you don't know what they do, you can cause great danger

if you don't have make installed, you should get it. there are make rpms out there - check www.rpmfind.net

just so you know, make is for installing files, generally. if you see just random files around and don't know what they do, don't run make on them - i'm not exactly sure what would happen, but it may not be that pretty.

(god, i haven't used linux in a long time!)
