Burning avi's as iso's
been messing around with cdrecord and accidentally recorded a few divx films to cd as it's own filesystem, instead of wrapping them with mkisofs... i thought they were shafted, but i can still watch them from the disk with mplayer, just using the block device as the filename. worked perfectly, no mounting required! cool!

Hey Chris, what do you mean with their own filesystem? To burn an avi to a disc you don't need to specify much:
cdrecord dev=0,0,0 speed=32 -v -eject -data /location/of/movie/movie.avi
You don't need to specify more than that. Obviously the movie would need to be of correct size to fit on the disc, but that's a given. So I am confused as to how you did what you did, but it would seem very cool! How do you play it? mplayer -vo xv /dev/cdrom ? Or something else?
Cool

cdrecord can't burn files to a cdr, you need to create a filesystem for them first
mkisofs film.avi | cdrecord -
the way you suggested, which is the way i was messing with writes it as if it were an iso. the -data option is default anyway.

Cool then, I will have to give it a try later on when I get home, thanks for letting me/us know about that.
Although I think I have burned files to a CD before, not using mkisofs first, I do backups all the time using straight cdrecord I will check it out later to follow up and see if the discs still work afterwards.
Cool
