Buffer I/O error during bootup
Hello,
I use Fedora Core 2.6.12 on a Dell Latitude D600 Laptop. I am no longer able to boot into Linux. At boot time I get the message:
Buffer I/O error on device hda6, logical block 0
Buffer I/O error on device hda6, logical block 1
Buffer I/O error on device hda6, logical block 2
Buffer I/O error on device hda6, logical block 3
Buffer I/O error on device hda6, logical block 4
mkrootdev: label / not found
mount: error 2 mounting ext3
pivotroot: pivot_root(/sysroot,/sysroot/initrd) failed: 2
umount /initrd/proc failed: 2
Kernel panic - not syncing: No init found. Try passing init= option to kernel
This just happened all of a sudden today. I haven't made any changes to the kernel. All of a sudden the laptop's "disk light" (the one that comes on during I/O) went into a long period of flickering during which the computer just seemed to slow down and freeze. (I wasn't able to open windows, etc.) I also remember seeing some "I/O error" messages at that time. I had to do a hard reboot, and have been unable to boot back into Linux ever since then.
Any suggestions?
