Browsing faster in win XP?!

This is really annoying me

I put my cable modem on my Win XP box, and enabled ICS (Internet con sharing) and it is a lot faster than when i use my linux box as a router

My linux box is a PII 400 with 384MB RAM, and the XP box a 1.4Ghz, 256DDR.
I wouldn't have thought the machine spec difference would make any difference in speed?!

Please someone tell me why web pages are slow, kludgy and hang when browsing through the linux router, yet not through windows via ICS?

I really, REALLY, dont want to keep windows connected directly to the net

Cheers

Duncan

with the total lack of any usefull information to work with, the best i could tell you is that your linux box isn't configured properly.

What browser are you using, what distro are you using, do you have firewalls/proxies anything like that?

Not enough info for an answer.

you can use a light wight browser if you are using x and close unnesscery services that are running

I have closed down all services that are running.

Here is the iptables rule i am using for the masquerading of my LAN:

iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -j MASQUERADE
