i installed a pci modem (and its drivers ) , but when i connect to isp, i can't browse the web, because no byte are sending or recieving. all seting are correct. what should i do . ip address and proxy setting are assigned by isp . i can browse in xp without any setting.

Have you setup the domain nameserver in /etc/resolv.conf (man resolv.conf) or can you not connect to the net at all? If you can browse with numerical addresses the problem is with your DNS. Try entering http://64.179.4.149 into mozilla's addressbar. If it takes you to LQ then you are online and the problem is nameserver resolution
