Borland's kbhit()

Does anybody know if the Borland C funtion kbhit() (included in conio.h if I remeber correctly) is available with gcc?
I'd be happy with an alternative too if it isn't :D.
Thanks

Usually you would check to see if there is any data present for stdin with a 'select' call. There should be many examples on the net of how to do this. But I'll see if I can find a simple example that I might have here.
You might want to direct these kind of questions to the programming section.
