Bootloader

I have a bootloader problem, on my toshiba 1905-s301 laptop I run redhat 8.0. I installed the lilo bootloader but when I turn on my laptop the bootloader doesn't come up, in order for me to get into linux i need to use the boot floppy. My lilo bootloader is installed on /hda1/, is there anyway to get the bootloader to come up because i'm sick of using this floppy :-)

I believe that when you install Lilo to anything but the MBR you should be using another bootloader to access Lilo.
Unless there is some reason you do not want to, Lilo should be in the MBR to boot your computer.
Is it multibooting or is Linux the only OS?

In the /boot directory it says I have grub running as a bootloader, I notice it is installed on /hda1, the bootloader is installed on /hda1 yes. When I turn on my laptop it doesn't bring up the bootloader, I've tried the bootloader on /hda/ and it still doesn't bring it up, I have to keep using floppy to boot linux, and yes LINUX is the only operating system on my laptop running, its /hda1/ is the linux ext2, and the /hda2 is the swap.

hm, u can;'t access grub at all? boot up your machine and it doesn't even say this?

grub>

if it does, then grub is up

if u got lilo instead, your lilo is up.

boot your floppy and run grub-install to fix it

or if u want to do the dirty work, u can also edit the /boot/grub/menu.lst file

a tutorial can be found at http://www.geocities.com/cyberkabila/main/grub.html

personally i donno much about lilo so can't help u with that :|

you should install lilo on the mbr

boot using floppy and open '/etc/lilo.conf'

change the line

boot=/dev/hda1

to

boot=/dev/hda

and in the command prompt run 'lilo'

this should do

I don't think lilo is my bootloader, I do have that file on my computer but grub is in /boot, so what should I do? What if my computer doesn't boot anymore? Because one time I've tried installing linux on hda, and it still didn't bring up a bootloader.
