Booting up issue
 

Hey guys,

I've been having problems with Yast and would like to run the repair kit after booting up on the installation CD. I have both a CD Recorder and DVD player/burner and both are unmounted.

And both, perhaps for that reason, will not recognize on the boot up before the grub screen (which is when the CD's used to recognize).

Is there a file I would need to modify in order to get it to recognize the CD upon boot up? What should I do? Because, as of now, I cannot even reformat because the disk won't recognize.

Have you got the CD as a boot device in your BIOS?

Usually presing the "Del" key when you computer is booting will bring up the BIOS options. You need the CD as a boot device, and it must be checked before your hard drive.

You need to change your BIOS to boot the CD first instead of the hard drive. Most BIOSs can be accessed by hitting the delete or F1 key when the first screen comes up, usually right after the very first beep when you turn it on. I usually just keep hitting one or the other until I see the BIOS screen. Usually they have a blue background.

If you are not familiar with the BIOS settings, be careful. Some settings, especially speed stuff, can cause damage. You may want to go to the manufacturers website or search google for better info.

Most newish computers will use F2...F11...ESC...etc to go straight to boot options without going into the BIOS. Just read the screen for options when BIOS loading. This is a little faster, and you don't have to remember to go back and change the BIOS to boot to hda.
