Booting the raspberrypi from the USB pendrive rather than the SD

Hi,

Happy Owner of a raspberrypi, you might sometimes have issues with your small sized devices, such as for instance an SD card to boot.

Those SD cards have no endurance, and usually you have to buy several spares 8gb-16gb to replace them regularly due to bad clusters.

Not good, and it starts really to become expensive. Nobody mentions too much about that. Of course, since it is not so good for the pi's marketing.

OK, so why not booting directly from the usb pendrive?

Please would you mind indicating how this could be completed?

thank you

You'll still need an SD card to load the kernel (and firmware files), but you should be able to use a different root file system modifying the kernel command line (/boot/cmdline.txt).
More on this here.
