booting multiple distro's with a mini-distro

what I want
I want to experiment with multiple distro's and boot them on a simple way. I want to be able to delete a distro and install a new without deleting my boot loader.

my idea
My idea is to set up a small boot partition where I install a mini-distribution with where I install my boot loader (probably grub)

my questions
1. If I install another distribution, do I have to install a boot loader on its partition or can I just change my grub.conf on my boot partition?

2. Does someone has a similar boot system set up or are there better ways to do what I want?

You can safely install several different distributions and remove them as long as you keep the bootloader intact. If you have one favourite distribution that you intend to keep, install the one first and then use the bootloader that comes with that distro to boot all the others (so during installation of other distros you should choose not to install a bootloader). If you use Grub, simply update your /boot/grub/menu.lst or /boot/grub/grub.conf configuration file and add new instances for the other distributions.
