Bootable Linux with CD-RW Support


What is a good bootable linux that will allow me write files to my cd-rw drive or usb thumbdrive? One of my computer just crashed and i am trying to recover my files

knoppix if you use the toram, you wil need 1G of ram to do this though

Is there anything lesser since the ocmputer only has 512mb of ram?

Greetings,
I think any live CD should work. The only reason to load it into RAM would be if your only optical drive was the CD-RW, then you'd have to take out the live cd to burn your data files...it could be tricky. But, if you have enough space on your USB flash drive, you could just mount that and copy the files without the extra hassle of loading to RAM and removing CDs.

yup that would work, or find a lighter liveCD like INSERT there are liveCD sites that will give you a good breakdown of the different ones and base features they offer as well as the size of each. IIRC the live CD INSERT = 50M and does have burning abilities not with GUI, but with cdrecord so putting that toram would not be an issue even with only 512M ram.
