bootable knoppix/windows virtual cd?

Greetings,
I have a problemita, as I'm sure many others do as well...
Need to run Dreamweaver to edit something, but I'm in Linux.
Rebooting takes too long.
We have come up with a temporary solution. Running vmware on a linux server and remotely accessing it through other machines. It works for now, but I wanted to ask about virtual machines.

Question: Could it be possible to run a virtual machine off the CD, for example, running knoppix while you are in windows and (better yet) running windows while you're in Linux from a CD?

I'm not very aware of all the implications, but some feedback would be very educational

Thanks

Windows from CD has two big hurdles: it needs to be able to write to the file system during bootup, and the registry. To get around this you would need to create your desired windows setup and program in a ramdisk to start as well as point everything to use that instead of a hardisk.

Fortunately if you Google for "Windows on CD" or something similar you will find a site that tells how to do just that for 98. I do not think you can do the same thing using XP because of file system issues. I would do it for you but I simply do not have time. Here is a few websites for you:

http://www.thetechguide.com/forum/in...pic=5582&st=20
http://www.nu2.nu/bootcd/
http://www.bootdisk.com/

If you decide to go this route, you would use Linux as the host and run VMware with the bootable windows disk in the drive. It will then boot like an regular machine and you dont need to dual boot.

Hope that helps

FYI You can supposedly run embedded NT or XP from a CD. As you might of guessed it isn't cheap.
