bootable cdimage->bootable hdpartition?
Hi
I have a small server with no cd- og floppy-drive. Every time i have to reinstall LInux (and thats often...) i spend a lot of time finding an install image which fits on a 64 mb usbstick. And when found it is often still quite troublesome to get it to work. My question is this: If i create a 1gb bootable hdpartition and then write "cat linuxinstallcd.img > /dev/hda1", would it be possible to boot the image from the harddrive? Or is there another way if this won't work? Thanks in advance, Lasse |
The first thing that comes to mind for me is to make an image of the disk (first thought is Partition Magic, but I expect there's a better native Linux way) and then just restore that when you need to reinstall, giving you the exact setup you had in only minutes.
The second thing that comes to mind is why do you need to reinstall so often? -Alan |
