Boot screen, kernel line input other than apic noapic?

So you get the boot screen which shows:

Code:
Linux xyz
Linux xyz failsafe

F1 F2 F3 F4
and 1 of the function key choices F4 maybe shows "default, apic noapic".

the point is, having chosen F4 and esc'd from it you see a line appear:

Code:
Boot____________________________
this invites you to add any kernel input parameter.

What exactly can or can't be added here?

Can modules or their order be influenced?

The inclusion/exclusion of certain hardware or services?

Many options can be entered, it depends on compiled kernel. You can view many of them in kernel documentation. For example I often remove IPV6 support by "ipv6.disable=1".

Basically, whatever you enter here is stored in kernel memory-space as a text string, and various modules at various times look for substrings in it. Most but not all of these are documented. "Use the Source, Luke!"
