Boot parameters for "no hdd"

I want my distro to not know there is an actual hdd connected in the PC.

disabling hdd from bios and disabling probing of linux does the trick but takes way too long.

How can tell my linux to not look for a hdd by boot parameters?

Thanks but I already seen it, not the solution I'm looking for.

If the kernel does not accept parameters perhaps there's no way but to reconfigure and rebuild your kernel (or create a different version) to not support IDE or HDDs.

My kernel accepts parameters, I'm actually asking about what parameters I should use to get my linux not detect my hdds.

No what I meant is if (perhaps by browsing the documentation or reading the source code) it appears that there is really no parameter that can be passed to the kernel that the kernel will recognize, then perhaps it's just better to configure the kernel by rebuilding it.

Back track 3 had such an boot option, but don't have the cd anymore, so not sure if it was really disable hdd or just work around it.

Hi,

You should be able to pass the 'noprobe' for a particular IDE device to the kernel at boot.

so if I "noprobe", it won't find any of the hdds, even if hdd's are not disabled from bios.

I was using "hda=noprobe" but it was detecting the hdd if it was not disabled from bios
