SUSE Linux 10.1-----------------------Image-----/boot/vmlinuz (/dev/hda6,root=/dev/hda6)

FailSafe - Suse Linux 10.1------------Image-----/boot/vmlinuz (/dev/had6,root=/dev/hda6)

I used to boot into 'SUSE Linux 10.1', but I updated it using smart. Everything seemed fine until I rebooted because now when I boot into that image it tries to boot up but reboots again. So I booted into 'Previous Kernel - SUSE LINUX 10.1' and successfully updated using Yast2 (kernel and all). If I still try to boot into 'SUSE Linux 10.1' it still reboots when it tries to boot up, but when I boot into 'Previous Kernel - SUSE LINUX 10.1', this is updated and I would like to "default boot" into that one.
If im uderstanding your question; you want to change the default boot from "suse linux" to "previous kernel- suse linux". open the file, /boot/grub/menu.lst and look for line default 0. change it to 3 or watever number the system u want to set to default. ie: count number of lines, start with 0, of boot list; usually at end of document- where it looks like boot menu-- below.
Code:
SUSE Linux 10.1-----------------------Image-----/boot/vmlinuz (/dev/hda6,root=/dev/hda6)
Windows-------------------------------Other-----/dev/hda1
FailSafe - Suse Linux 10.1------------Image-----/boot/vmlinuz (/dev/had6,root=/dev/hda6)
Previous Kernel - SUSE LINUX 10.1-----Image-----/boot/vmlinuz.previous (/dev/hda6,root=/dev/hda6)
Xen - SUSE LINUX 10.1-----------------Image-----/boot/vmlinuz-xen (/dev/hda6, root=/dev/hda6)
Previous Xen - SUSE LINUX 10.1--------Image-----/boot/vmlinuz-xen.previous (/dev/hda6, root=/dev/hda6)
lol, if u get lost, let me know, im not good at giving directions.
Thanks, I got it to boot into the one I want. The only thing different between line 1 and line 4 is line has /boot/vmlinuz and line 4 has /boot/vmlinuz.previous. Is that what was causing the problem in the first place? I assume that file has something to do with the kernel it boots into? So I took at look at both files and here is what I found:
If I changed the symbolic link of vmlinuz to point to 'vmlinuz-2.6.16.21-0.25-default' would it fix the orginal problem of SUSE Linux 10.1 rebooting? But then what would happen to vmlinuz-2.6.16.21-0.25-bigsmp?
