its been a long time since i posted here but here goes,

recently i recompiled a new kernel for my laptop ( kernel version 2.6.7 ) the compile worked fine and the system services etc all work okay, however, directly after the kernel starts the screen goes blank and the system carries on doing its thing.

the compile process i am doing is:
make mrproper ( when i got the kernel )

make xconfig
make
make modules_install
make install

it seems to me i have left some thing out, but i cannot figure out what
any ideas anyone?

Probably a completly useless suggestion from a relatively newbie Linux user, but have you checked the Power Management settings on your box?
Just a thought.

I got that when I played with Lilo's viewing options

try to change those .. you'll need the startup CD (I'm on Slack)
