black screen

Ive tried installing many distributions and i keep getting a black screen after putting the install cd in and booting the default kernal. So far only slackware (which always screws up in the rc.M) has been able for me to install. Which is no good being stuck in single user mode. Any idea why i keep getting this annoying black screen and nothing happening?

I had a similar issue one time, can't mind exactly what caused it, nor can I remember how I solved it but, you could try Telneting in or similar from a networked machine, I could do that when I had a similar issue.
That might help point towards the problem...

Sounds familiar. Don't know if my problem is or even could be related to yours. I still don't know for sure what caused my problem, but I resolved it by wiping my hard drive and repartitioning. I had some weird partitioning on the drive and I think the bios detection code had trouble with it.
