BitTorrent Clients cause me packet loss???

When ever i run a bit torrent client be it azureus or ABC Torrent. after awhile my net slows to a crawl. I could be uploading a max of 5kbps and not even downloading and it will still do this. If i ping something like www.yahoo.com i get mass packet loss. If i shut down the client and redo my dhcp everything returns to normal no packet loss no speed decrease. Anyone heard of this before??
