Ran Gentoo for about 2 months. Compiles are no biggggie. Twice in the last two months have my compiled lasted more than an hour. Usuailly, there are few, if any. Its as stable as they say, IMO. Gentoo feels like Debian speeded up. The next best thing to having FreeBSD installed.

Yeah, if they offer them at all. Many programs out there, some of which you might even want to use, are not provided in package form by the distros. You have to take what you can get sometimes.

I've had tons of dependency problems with RPM packages, but very few using Apt. It just seems to handle them better.
