Best way to map Windows key to Meta in Terminal

Hi all,

I didn't know where to put this question. It seems to be in between Hardware and Software, though more Software than Hardware.

I'm using Gnome Terminal specifically, but I realize that this problem also occurs with RXVT and ATerm, but XTerm is exempt, because you can map your Windows key to your Meta key by adding these two lines to your .Xdefaults:

xterm*eightBitInput: false
xterm*metaSendsEscape: true
I did some more research and found that you need to tell loadkeys to use the Windows keys as Meta keys, but I was unsuccessful in doing so, as

echo "keycode 156 = Meta_X" | loadkeys
...did not work. It doesn't give me any messages.

Thanks in Advance

Since you're using gnome-terminal, I assume you're using Gnome.

Have you tried setting the gnome keyboard settings?
(Start Here -> Keyboard -> Layout Options)
You can map Meta onto both (both window keys) and (left only).
