Try without dummy. Why do you need the dummy session? The screen shift problem was solved with a kernel option (I believe it was 'noscroll' but have to look it up if you need).
Mine runs like a charm (upgraded to 8.10 64bit for a year ago).
I've been trying on and off for about a year now trying to get my multi-seat setup to work and have tried to follow half a dozen different tutorials.
I've got a thread on this forum and the Ubuntu forums going and have listed my xorg.conf file, but very few have taken an interest.
I'm very close as I've gotten two separate X views displayed. However, I can't get the 2nd X view to have it's own mouse/keyboard.
Would you be so kind as to post your xorg.conf AND gdm.conf file (or at least the sections requiring change)? It's frustrating that so many others seem to make this look easy!
otoomet, Thank you VERY MUCH for posting your info. My problem is that I can see two seperate X screens as setup through my nvidia-settings manager. However, the 2nd X screen has no mouse and keyboard to control that screen.
Your xorg.conf file looks very similar to mine except I don't have the "Generic Keyboard" & "Configured Mouse" sections. I have each mouse and keyboard listed as in input devices. None of the tutorials I used had these two extra section.
Your gdm.conf file is also very similar to mine with the exception of the [server-MultiSeat] section. This is where I was trying to put in a "dummy" as was done in one of my tutorials. If you use the [server-MultiSeat] section, shouldn't the "#2=MultiSeat" line be un-commented? Also I'm using Ubuntu 9.10, and have read that I need to downgrade gdm to 2.20. I'm comfortable with that step, but can you (or anyone) please confirm that it's necessary? Are there any other files or anything else that needs to be done?
My apologies for high-jacking the thread. I'll try to more closely match your configuration later tonight and if I still can't get it working, I'll start a new thread asking people to post their working configurations as that seems to be the best information.
the Multiseat section in the gdm config is probably redundant, as there may be a lot of redundant stuff in xorg.conf as well. I have not attempted to clean those.
I gave Userful another try last night and this time downgraded my gdm to 2.20 (I just assumed it would have done that for me before). I got slightly different results. It appears that two different mice are now assigned to two separate seats. I assume the keyboards are as well, but can't tell. The 2nd seat only has a mouse visible on a black screen. That screen just stays black with an X-shaped mouse cursor.
I did a bit of reading on the Userful Support site and found that Nvidia 9000 series video cards need to use version 325. I have a Nvidia 9400 video card. I searched their website, but could not find version 325 anywhere for download...
